Nostalgic Showcase Presents (2023-2024)
Nostalgic Showcase Presents is a series of educational and research-based articles discussing and telling the histories of defunct American animation and live action studios, publishers, and franchises, advertising Westlake Porter Public Library's wide and diverse filmography catalogue and other available materials. In November 2024, Cat also hosted a "Nostalgic Showcase Presents Live: Early Hollywood History" program at Westlake Porter Public Library, focusing on Hollywood's early years and film history, presented live. This program will be filmed and posted to the Internet Archive after the event.
"From early Hollywood to present-day, Nostalgic Showcase Presents brings the history and filmography of your favorite defunct (and forgotten!) studios to readers! Grab your favorite snacks and sugary beverages, as we re-visit the studios and numerous personalities that created our favorite movies, shows, and comic book series through the last century. It's a blast from the past you won't want to miss out!"
Cat's Picks (2023-2024)
Cat's Picks is a sister series to Nostalgic Showcase Presents, focusing solely on one subject or theme and advertising materials associated with the article's focus that are available at Westlake Porter Public Library. While research may play a role in the writing of these articles, Cat's Picks have a more personal and subjective tone than Nostalgic Showcase Presents. As a result of this more relaxed tone in Cat's Picks, this series has also covered a wider array of topics; queer representation in comics, Shark Week, puppetry, and showcasing various seasonal holiday-themed books, for example.
"Cat's Picks is the series for book and movie recommendations from Cat, covering a wide array of topics, from queer and underground comics to reminiscing about Saturday Morning Cartoons, to Jim Henson's diverse world of puppets and the gnarly history of Shark Week! Cat writes from her own personal experiences, wrapping memories with book and movie recommendations, making each article in the series feel like the reader is hearing it, in person, from Cat herself."
